Montessori Educational Approach And Early Childhood Education

The Montessori educational approach was developed by Italian psychiatrist Maria Montessori, who initially began working with deprived and retarded children. Observations on educational challenges faced by these children directed her to formulate theories in the fields of cognitive development and early childhood education. Noticing the progress made by students that were previously considered uneducable, Montessori ponder the poor performance â€Å"normal† children were having at regular schools. She argued that schools during that time (late 19th beginning of 20th century) were not meeting the individual educational needs of children and hence suffocated, rather than encourage, learning.
